What is Pilates?
An innovative system of mind-body exercise evolved from the principles of Joseph Pilates.  Pilates dramatically transforms the way your body looks, feels and performs. It builds strength without excess bulk, creating a sleek, toned body with slender thighs and a flat abdomen.

It teaches body awareness, good posture and easy, graceful movement. Pilates improves flexibility, agility and economy of motion.  It can even help back pain.

Group Reformer
This is a beginning to intermediate level workout that builds on the basic work, adding in more challenging exercises requiring greater strength and flexibility.

Group Circuit Training
Alternate between exercises on the Mat, Reformer and other smaller props. This class is best suited for those who feel very comfortable with Essential level exercises and would like to add challenge to their workout.

What are the benefits of PILATES?
√ Longer, leaner muscles (less bulk, more freedom of movement)
√ Improves postural problems
√ Increases core strength, stability and peripheral mobility
√ Balances strength & flexibility
√ No-impact, easy on the joints
√ Can be customized to suit everyone from rehab patients to elite athletes
√ Complements other methods of exercise
√ Improves sport performance
√ Improves balance, coordination & circulation

What kind of results can I expect from doing PILATES?
You can expect an increase in strength, flexibility, mobility, balance, and body awareness, as well as a decrease in back pain or other general pains.

About the Reformer
The Universal Reformer, known as the reformer, is the most popular piece of equipment and one of Joseph Pilates’s original inventions.
He believed beginning exercise in the horizontal plane was important to relieve the stress and strain on the joints, and to align the body before adding additional gravitational forces.
Classically, there are more than a hundred movements created for the reformer, each dependent and built upon the other.

Will I get the same results with a mat workout as with a Reformer or equipment workout?
Mat-based workouts are very convenient and can be done anywhere. Adding light equipment and larger resistance equipment will place more emphasis on your limbs and add variety and intensity to your program.

If I’m doing Pilates, should I still do my regular workout?
PILATES exercise is a musculo-skeletal conditioning program. It’s ideal in combination with some kind of cardiovascular exercise (walking, running, aerobics, aqua fitness etc.), and a great complement to your weight training program.
